A Study on the Physiological, Biochemical and Morphological Characteristics of Diazinon Treated Mouse Kidney

Abstract
This study was in this relevance, ¢¥attempted to examine the effects of organophosphorus pesticide upon the kidney. For doing this, organophosphorus pesticide (diazinon) being used frequently in Korea was selected. The authors undertook the present study to investigate the toxic effect of the organophosphorus pesticide on the kidney were used as experimental animals. The experimental animals were killed 12 hrs, 24 hrs, 48 hrs, 72 hrs and 120 hrs after administration of 0.01ml, 0.1ml. 0.2ml, 0.5m1 diazinon. The kidney has been examined grossly, light & electron microscopically, and serum cholinesterase, hemoglobin, WBC differential count have also been measured.
The results obtained from this experiment were as follows ;
1. Hemoglobin is decreased in 72 hrs group of diazinon administered 0.5m1.
2. From the investigation of leucocyte, neutrophils were decreased but lymphocyte had largely increased of diazinon administered.
3. From this biochemical view, changes of cholinesterase activity in the serum decreased in all experimental groups and indicated the most low experimental values in 72 hrs experimental group (0.5m1). increased in 120 hrs experimental group but these values were low in comparison with normal group.
4. Light microscopically, congestion and focal hemorrhage, swelling and degeneration of the cells of the proximal tubule, and hyaline casts in the tubule were observed.
5. On the electron microscopy. swelling of mithochondria, numerous lysosomes vacuolesobserved. Additionally, disruption of mitochondrial cristae and focal hickening of basement membrane were seen.
